Dear Band Director:

The Apex High School Marching Band is continuing its tradition of Middle School Night this year on Friday, September 28. We would like to invite your 8th grade students who will be attending Apex High School next year to join the Apex HS Marching Band in performing the Star Spangled Banner in the pre-game show and playing stand music during the games on September 28.

I have attached a flyer inviting your students to participate. We would appreciate it if you would let your 8th graders know about this opportunity. We will also have copies of the flyer posted soon on the Apex High School band website at http://www.apexhighband.org/

To simplify things, you don't need to return the forms to us. We will send out music to you the week before the event, and ask that you distribute it to the students who plan to participate.

Giving your students the opportunity to see the fun and excitement of playing in their high school marching band is one of the best ways to ensure that your students will continue to build upon the foundation that you have instilled on them in your middle school band program. We appreciate your help in encouraging your 8th graders to come get a taste of high school marching band.

Questions? Call AHS Band Director Paul Rowe at 387-2236 (AHS band office), Sue Toman at 363-3657, or e-mail Lib McGowan at "Middle School Contact email" - click to reveal spam-protected email address.

Thank you very much for sharing this with your students.

2007-08 Kickoff Party! - Friday Sept 28, 2007

Greetings Parents and Band Students!

Please join us to celebrate the kick off of the 2007 marching band competition season being held on Friday, September 28 immediately following the game. We would love to meet new faces in the band families, as well as greet familiar faces!

We will be serving tasty snacks and cold drinks as well as showing the night's performance on video! This is something that all band students enjoy as they will get to see their show, ARLINGTON – WHERE VALOR PROUDLY SLEEPS, on screen for the first time.

Please help us make this a success for everyone by contributing the selected items for your student as detailed on the attached flyer. Please coordinate the first letter of your student's last name on the chart with the needed item for the party.

A collection bin has been setup in the band room for non-perishable items only which may be brought to the band room the week of the gathering or on the night of the game. If you are scheduled to bring a perishable item, bring them the night of the game in a container that can be thrown away. We will not be responsible for returning containers, etc.

We look forward seeing everyone after the game. If you have questions about this event, please feel free to contact Andrea Manus at "Social Email" - click to reveal the spam-protected email address.

Show Your Support!! -
Wave your Flag!!, 9/26/2007

During the show's presentation of the flag during "America the Beautiful", show your patriotism by waving your own personal American flag!  Small flags  (4"x6") will be passed out in the "band parent section" of the stands (next  to the band section) at football games just before halftime.  We will all wave the flags only as the flag is unrolled by the students on the field.  Please return the flags after halftime.

At competitions, flags will be available for pick-up at the band buses when the band arrives.  Flags should be returned after the awards at each competition.

Remember:  Only wave the flags as the LARGE flag on the field is
unrolled and each time Apex wins an award (which we know will be A LOT!!!).

Band plays at Veterans Day Recognition at Baucom Elementary,
Friday, November 9, 2007

Band students will help Baucom elementary school students understand and honor the meaning of Veterans Day by performing their marching show, "Arlington ... Where Valor Proudly Sleeps" on the field behind the elementary school.  There will be two performances at 8:40 and 10:40 a.m. accommodating grade groups 3 - 5 and K - 2.

Band students will have excused absences during the performance and will miss approximately 1-1/2 to two class periods.  They will return at  approximately at 11:00 a.m..  Students need to report to the band room by 7:30 a.m. on Friday morning to dress in uniform and load onto the buses which will arrive at Baucom at 8:00.  A modified Pit Crew of parents will coordinate and assist with loading and transporting basic props, equipment, instruments, and marking the field.

The band is pleased to support Baucom's Veterans Day celebration with our patriotic marching show.  We hope to inspire respect and appreciation toward all those in military service to our country, and possibly also instill a love for music performance in the young hearts and minds of this next generation.

1ST Annual COOKIE EXCHANGE!
12/11/2007

You're invited to the First Annual Band Booster Holiday Cookie Swap!

The Social Committee invites all Band Booster parents to come out and enjoy each other's baking skills and fellowship! After the December Booster meeting, we will have a semi-traditional cookie swap. This is an optional event, you can still come to the December band booster meeting and chose not to participate in the cookie swap. The swap will be held after the meeting has been adjourned.

Please bring at least 3 1/2 dozen cookies per family. We are asking that you bake your "special" cookie recipe that you only bring out during the holidays. It can be simple, it can be extravagant - just have fun baking it! Feel free to make any holiday finger-type dessert - fudge is good too!

Be sure and pack 3 dozen of the cookies in 3 separate containers (one container should hold 1 dozen cookies) to go home with other families. No fancy packing is necessary - a simple disposable Christmasy plate in a ziploc bag will do! Attach a recipe card on the outside of each cookie container with the recipe of the cookie on the card. We have some food allergies in the band, so please make sure that you follow your recipe!

Each guest will take home 3 different dozen types of cookies!

We'll sample the other 1/2 dozen that you've brought at the meeting.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email Andrea Manus.
