The story and
movie of "Moulin Rouge", starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, is a
story about Truth, Beauty, Freedom and Love.
It takes place in 1899 Paris,
France when an impoverished writer named Christian visits Paris to
become part of the clique of revolutionaries called the Bohemians.
One day, as he is sitting in his hotel room, an Argentinean fellow falls
through his roof. The Argentinean happens to be an actor working
with the legendary Henri Toulouse Lautrec. Toulouse instantly knew
Christian had a great talent and knew he was the one that would write
"Spectacular, Spectacular", an amazing circus show that stirred
sentiments that would ultimately bring about the Bohemian Revolution.
With Toulouse's help,
Christian was able to meet Satine, his true love, and the beautiful star
of the "Moulin Rouge". Unfortunately for him, Satine mistook him for the
Duke, to whom she was arranged to be an escort, in order that
he would fund the conversion of the "Moulin Rouge" into a theatre. As
events in the story unfold, Satine and Christian must hide their secret
affair from the Duke. But it would not be long until the Duke
figured this out, and in order to save Christian from the jealous Duke, Satine had to agree to never see Christian again. Christian is
driven mad by her rejection. But in the end, Satine reveals that
she will love him until the end of time.
In reality, the "Moulin
Rouge" was a very modern form of entertainment in that era. Unlike the
other music halls across England, "Moulin Rouge" was revolutionary in
its use of electricity in the show. Also, it was where the
"Can-Can" dance originated.
The Apex Marching Band is
proud to bring this legendary show to life for you.
