Band
Camp: Plan for the kick-off of the season!
Responsibilities include helping to coordinate the Band Picnic and
chaperoning during the training camp. Especially needed are
those with knowledge of first aid. You can also bring in a
lunch spread for the Band Staff, or host the Band Staff at your
house for dinner during the break.

Chaperone:
Several adults are needed to chaperone
and/or travel to each event that the full band and pep band participates, including
football games, parades,
and competitions. The chaperones are responsible for
monitoring the students, distributing snacks, helping with uniforms,
and other duties as needed. Requests for chaperones are
primarily coordinated by email, and a scheduling calendar is sent
out. It's a great way to know all the kids and share in their
show excitement! Questions/Comments:
Color
Guard: The Color Guard needs
help readying their
makeup and
costumes, and with getting their flags and other
accessories on and off the field promptly since they are judged
accordingly. Please help chaperone this specialized group! Questions/Comments:
Communication/Website:Get out the Word! Looking for people to help with the Band Website (ideas &
content, graphics, web programming GURU, and backup). Is
this your specialty?

Costume/Sewing:
Can you SEW?
We need a group that will sew performance costumes or cloth props
needed for the show. Projects could range in difficulty level
anywhere from simple to complex. Questions/Comments:
Historian:
Capture band memories of special
events, the show, parades, and competitions on film! Provide
digital shots
and video for the band website. Record the band's activities
throughout the year. Questions/Comments:
Middle
School Liaison:
Coordinate and serve as a point of contact
to middle school band programs for entry into the Apex High School
Band program. With Mr. Rowe, enthusiastically recruit and
advertise what the Band is all about. Questions/Comments:
Pit
Crew: Adults are responsible for loading
and unloading the sideline percussion instruments and props for the
football half-time shows and for competitions. Please wear khaki pants and a
black top. Pit crews are an important part of the
competition and are judged on their efficiency and enthusiasm,
and is a great way to meet other parents.
The Apex High Pit Crew has often been awarded Top Pit
Crew Award at competitions! Way to go TEAM! Questions/Comments:
Prop
Design and Construction:
Help plan and
create props to match our band theme's show. Can you design
and construct in wood and other materials? Are you
handy with power tools and
paint? Make our band show backdrop stand out on the field and
help us win the Overall Impression award. Questions/Comments:
Prop
Field Crew: This crew will erect,
place, and remove the props at competitions and home football
games. Volunteers will be trained to be familiar with the
props. There will be a sign up schedule for the season, so
sign up for as many events as you would like. Questions/Comments:
PTSA
Liaison: Attend
Apex High School PTSA meetings to represent the Band. Get a broad perspective of high
school activities and issues, and promote the Band Program within the school. Questions/Comments:
Public
Relations: Are you a
news reporter or writer? Have contacts? Advertise and inform the general public of band activities
and highlights by submitting articles and information to school and community newspaper
publications. Questions/Comments:
Social
Committee:
Organizes a host of events
including Senior Night and the Annual Band Banquet.
Plans can include Potlucks and informal After-the-Game
gatherings at local restaurants. We all need time together to
network, meet new people, and celebrate our Band's successes.

Transportation:
Can you drive an
activity bus, tow the cargo trailer, tow the flatbed trailer,
and possibly driving a rental truck? Here are the specs:
To drive an
activity bus you must be a Wake County employee and have a CDL;
To tow the cargo trailer you will need to have
a vehicle with the following:
minimum 1/2 ton vehicle with at least 5,000
pound towing capacity
7 wire electrical hookup
electric brake control module
2 5/16" ball
adequate safety chain hookups.
To
tow the flatbed trailer you will need a 2" ball, although the
vehicle requirements are not as strict as above.
To drive the rental truck there are no
additional requirements beyond a driver's license.
The props and uniforms won't get to competitions without you!

Trip
Committee: Every other year the Band takes
a special trip to perform the show. We are next scheduled for
2008-09. Work
with Mr. Rowe to set a destination and make it happen. Questions/Comments:
Uniforms:
Early in the season, the marchers
need to be sized to available uniforms, and Dinkles (special
marching shoes) need to be ordered. Instructions are given to
parents to make any modifications to hems or fitting if needed.
Periodic help is needed to inventory/care for the uniforms.
Help get the students dressed for the show. Fit the academic band
into their custom made concert attire. Great way to meet your
kids' friends and share in the excitement! Questions/Comments:
Ways
and Means:
Do you have a flair for
fundraising and/or want to raise money for your band student's
expense account? Organize and participate in opportunities for
the Band to raise money for special purchases. Help us to fund
what we need to do. Click this

Program, which involves contacting businesses to ask for their
