Why We FundraiseAll of the funds necessary to run a band program the size of ours comes from marching band fees, generous donations, and fundraisers. The Apex Band Booster's budget supports the entire Apex High School Band program - including two concert bands, jazz band, a wind ensemble and of course the marching band. Marching band is a voluntary commitment, and those students are required to pay marching band fees each year. The jazz bands and pep bands are also voluntary and extracurricular; the concert bands and wind ensemble are curriculum classes that students complete for a grade. There are no band fees for any of these other bands. However there are expenses that may be incurred throughout the year from all bands. For example, buses are needed for state concert performances, involving the wind ensemble and jazz bands but the school does NOT pay for these buses- it is up to the boosters to pay for expenses like these buses. Concert band students may be required through out the year to reimburse their portion of these bus rental expenses. Also concert band students are required to purchase proper concert attire. The band boosters provides the band room with a copier, toner and paper to provide copies of music to all students in all of the bands. Costs for permission to play certain music for concerts (copywright permissions) is also paid for by the boosters. Any travel required of the band director - when required - for state contests, etc. All of these types of expenses are incurred by the band boosters as part of the band program. Again, all of our fundraising efforts are voluntary, but are necessary to help pay for the expenses of the entire band program. |
